What is Focus Performance Age?
Focus Performance Age is a fun, gamified score that summarizes how your attention, memory, and processing speed compare to benchmarks from your age group. It translates raw test results into a single, easy-to-understand number — your "focus age."
If your focus performance age is lower than your actual age, it means your cognitive focus tested at a level typical of someone younger. If it's higher, it suggests there may be room for training and improvement. Either way, it's a personal insight — not a clinical diagnosis.
How is it calculated?
The Focus Performance Age is based on three well-established cognitive test paradigms:
- Stroop Test: Measures selective attention and cognitive inhibition. You see color words printed in mismatched ink colors and must name the ink color, ignoring the word itself. This tests how well your brain suppresses automatic responses.
- Schulte Grid: Measures visual scanning speed and sustained attention. You locate numbers in sequence within a randomized grid under time pressure. This is widely used in sports psychology and pilot training.
- Digit Span (Memory): Measures working memory capacity. You recall sequences of digits, challenging your brain's short-term information buffer — a core component of fluid intelligence.
What is a good score?
Scores are mapped against population benchmarks. A score within ±5 years of your actual age is considered typical. If your focus age is 5+ years lower than your real age, your cognitive focus tested above average for your demographic. If it's 5+ years higher, focused training may help sharpen specific domains like attention or memory.
How can I improve my Focus Age?
Consistent practice with targeted exercises can improve scores over time. Our daily exercises — Focus Sprint, Memory Lift, and Speed Scan — are designed to exercise the exact dimensions measured in the test.
